Engineered timber flooring: cost, reviews, pros & cons

Few things can bring rustic ambience to a home like wood flooring. For years, interior designers believed that solid wood was the only way to get this coveted finish without resorting to plastic imitations. But thanks to advances in technology, engineered wooden floorboards can strike a perfect middle ground between form and function. Engineered wooden flooring is a two layered flooring type composed of a thin hardwood as a surface layer and a solid plywood core at the bottom. It was developed as a cost-efficient answer to the usual problems of solid wood flooring, all without sacrificing durability and appearance. And because of the increase in materials and wood types available, it’s become a popular choice for wooden flooring in recent years. It’s versatile and easy to install, with most flooring companies offering tons of pre-finished choices for homeowners to choose from. However, for a marginal increase in fees, there are a few companies which can offer site-finished wood flooring. Engineered timber flooring has the same appearance as solid hardwood upon initial examination. It’s only when closely examining the pieces that you can see the layers that make up each panel. T...

I did a couple of searches, as I know there were some threads about the next

I did a couple of searches, as I know there were some threads about the next DC, but couldn’t find them. In “Tha Real Hokies” (used to be Hardcore Hokies group) on Facebook, someone mentioned that a DC has already been selected and the coaches are sharing this information with the recruits to help keep them on board. The poster mentioned he had Sauces, but didn’t list them. That in it’s own wouldn’t be enough for me to want to dig deeper, but seems a lot of other folks saying they heard similar. A few posted that it was Torrian Gray, though I find that hard to believe as that would mess up Florida’s recruiting. Anyway, figured I’d ask the TKP braintrust. Not trying to speculate or focus on who it could be, have plenty of thoughts on that, but trying to see if others are hearing repeated rumors that may be smoke leading to a fire. Pentagon official says Ukrainians asked about aid the same day Trump spoke to Zelensky

WASHINGTON — A senior Pentagon official told the congressional impeachment inquiry that Ukrainian officials inquired about the delay in U.S. military assistance to their country on the same day President Trump asked the Ukrainian president to investigate Joe Biden. A Ukrainian official serving in the U.S. asked the Pentagon on July 25 “what is going on” with nearly $400 million in aid to Ukraine, according to Laura Cooper, deputy assistant secretary of defense for Russia, Ukraine, Eurasia. “And did that connote to you that they were concerned that something was in fact going on with it?” asked House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff, D-Calif., who is leading the inquiry.  Cooper was testifying in the fourth day of public hearings Wednesday, alongside David Hale, undersecretary of state for political affairs, the third-ranking official at the State Department. The timing is significant because Trump pressured the Ukrainians to conduct an investigation of Biden, holding out a potential White House meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky as leverage, Gordon Sondland, U.S. ambassador to the European Union, told the House Intelligence Committee earlier Wednesday...

Simple injection of air proves successful in releasing child’s tongue trapped in bottle, inspired by opening a wine bottle

EurekAlert! offers eligible public information officers paid access to a reliable news release distribution service. A relatively simple injection of air has proved successful in releasing a 7-year-old boy’s tongue that became entrapped in a juice bottle, says new research published in the latest edition of the European Journal of Anaesthesiology (the official journal of the European Society of Anaesthesiology). The technique, inspired by the author’s memory of opening a wine bottle with a similar method, means other more complex techniques involving general anaesthesia and physically cutting off the bottle from around the tongue can be avoided. The report is by Professor Christoph Eich and Dr Simone Arndt, Auf der Bult Children’s Hospital, Hannover, Germany. Tongue entrapment in a bottle is a relatively rare emergency that usually involves children of school age who are playing with bottles using their tongue, unaware of the risk of their tongue becoming stuck. Strangulation of the front part of the tongue within the bottle neck causes accumulation of fluid (oedema), restriction of blood flow (ischaemia), capillary damage, and pain; this may put the child̵...

The detection of unauthorized tampering—in stores of anything from sensitive documents to nuclear materials—is improved by

The detection of unauthorized tampering—in stores of anything from sensitive documents to nuclear materials—is improved by exploiting the basic properties of quantum physics, according to a new study. Researchers demonstrated that optical monitoring systems, if made sensitive to quantum properties of light, could avoid vulnerabilities afflicting the best current tamper-detection systems. The new technique could soon find its way into practical use. Advanced systems for tamper protection currently rely on fiber-optic cables threaded through and around stores of materials to be safeguarded. These cables carry secret optical signals, which traverse the path and return to a detector at a secure site. Efforts to tamper with the materials, by disturbing the cables, would alter the returning signal and reveal the intrusion. But such systems remain open to a conceptually simple attack. A sophisticated intruder, upon breaking the fiber, could hide his or her presence by reproducing, or “spoofing,” the original signal. They need only detect the arriving signal and send along an exact copy. Such an “intercept-resend” attack would produce precisely the signal expected, and so avoid detectio...

Tigers basketball fans prepare to wear “Always the Hunted” t-shirts at game against Alcorn State | WATN

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (localmemphis.com) – “Always the Hunted,” that’s what’s on a t-shirt that’s expected to be worn by hundreds of Memphis Tigers fans Saturday during the Memphis basketball game against Alcorn State. The team will be tipping off without its star recruit, James Wiseman, who is entangled in an eligibility battle. Until a potential resolution with the NCAA, the university declared Wiseman ineligible to play. “Adversity, you persevere and then you just move forward,” Memphis Tigers Fan, Malcolm Thornton said. “Personally I hope the NCAA goes light on us, so he can be back for the Ole Miss game just because we really wanna beat Ole Miss,” said Jeremy Stinson, Manager of the Tigers Book Store. It was a hot topic among fans in the Tigers bookstore Friday as a fresh shipment of “Always the Hunted” t-shirts came rolling in. Stinson says this situation is very similar to the Derrick Rose debacle back in 2008. “Memphis kind of always feels like we’re the stepchild of the NCAA and to see the similarities between the cases and the fact that the school and the players kind of stood up to what’s going on, it’s kind of fun,” Stinson explained. “All I want to do is coach at my alma ...
